Changing retirement age would challenge ageist stereotypes

The default retirement age (DRA) allows employers to dismiss employees at 65 provided they follow a notification process. Staff can ask to continue working and employers must seriously consider such requests, but can refuse without giving reasons. Employees dismissed in this way cannot claim unfair dismissal or age discrimination. But it seems the days of the current DRA are numbered. Before the election, all three main political parties were committed either to getting rid of it or raising it to at least 70.
