New boardroom code stresses need for gender equality

Measures to encourage greater representation of women in Britain's boardrooms have been included in the new corporate governance code published by the Financial Reporting Council (FRC).The code, which sets out standards for companies whose shares are listed on the stock market, makes it explicit for the first time that the need for gender equality, and diversity generally, should be taken into account in hiring decisions.
