AHRI: The good times in part time

In April 2009 in the heart of the global financial crisis, workforce management company Skilled had to take radical steps to avoid major redundancies across its 1200 employees. The top 20 senior executives took a 10 per cent pay cut and all staff outside the top 20 were asked to work a nine-day fortnight and forfeit that day’s pay. The nine-day fortnight turned out to be a revelation for staff who loved the extra time for life outside work. It also forced staff to be disciplined about prioritising work.
