HR in the Gulf

John McGurk, CIPD learning, training and development adviser, gave HR and learning and development leaders in the Gulf insights into the CIPD’s latest research projects on Next Generation HR, Shaping the Future and Learning and Talent Development last month.McGurk was leading two round-table meetings for senior professionals. The first, in Dubai, focused on delivering HR capability while the second, in Abu Dhabi, was on innovative learning, training and development in the Gulf.The two meetings, involving a broad mix of organisations from the region, also provided an opportunity for lively debate, discussion and knowledge-sharing on the particular issues facing organisations and people management and development professionals working in the United Arab Emirates. For example, the meeting on building HR capability drew on themes from the CIPD’s research projects to explore HR in the next generation and the enablers and blockers of sustainable organisation performance.
