What does the coalition government have in store for employment law?
It is not yet clear what the "new politics" of the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition means for the future of employment law. But drawing on the parties’ coalition agreement, policy statements made in the run up to the election and the recent Queen’s Speech, it is possible to predict likely employment law changes during this administration.Although it contains little detail on employment law reform, the coalition agreement says the parties will “review employment and workplace laws” to ensure they “maximize flexibility for both parties while protecting fairness and providing the competitive environment required for enterprise to thrive". There are clear policy directions on bankers' bonuses, flexible working, equal pay and the default retirement age.
