Deal breakers

Even though it happens a lot, I still find it odd when I don’t see things that are right in front of me. At a conference last week an ex-student cornered me. Though smiling broadly she also conveyed a hint of menace (an approach we like to encourage at Birkbeck).

“Hey, Rob! Are you guys still doing stuff on the psychological contract?” she demanded. In case you’ve forgotten, the psychological contract is the implicit deal between employer and employee; what each party gives – and what they expect back in return.
