Employers ‘breaking the law’ by using unpaid interns

Employers taking on unpaid interns are “almost certainly breaking the law,” according to a report from the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) think tank.

Research from IPPR and campaign group Internocracy found that employers think there is a "grey area" around internships in national minimum wage legislation. The assumption is that unpaid internships are legal as long as both sides know it is a voluntary position. But this is wrong, IPPR argues in its report, Why Interns need a Fair Wage .
