This is the full interview with Major Robbie Whitfield of the British Army’s Labour Support Unit, which formed the basis for People Management magazine’s cover story – ‘Front-line manager’ – 1 July. Whitfield’s role is concerned with the recruitment, retention and motivation of civilian employees (known as locally engaged civilians – LECs) in the areas of the world in which the British Army operates – including war zones.
