Your interview with David Ulrich (“ The why guy”, 17 June ) is timely, with employee engagement being the challenge it is.Yet it sits oddly with the news report in the same issue about the CIPD calling for greater performance-related pay in the public sector (News, page 9, 17 June). This will be like pouring oil on a burning fire and appears not to recognise that performance-related pay, under its alias of incentive remuneration, has:- underpinned the bonus culture that fuelled the banking crisis;- led to the increased gap between executive and other employee earnings;
