Crossrail to leave a ‘skills legacy’ for building industry

Crossrail has pledged that it will leave a “skills legacy” and defended its apprenticeship scheme against critics, who said the number of trainee places offered was too low.

The rail project has set a target of training 400 apprentices across all building trades from 2010-17, which represents 3 per cent of the 14,000-strong workforce carrying out the works during the peak construction period of 2013-15.
