NHS must address skills imbalance in workforce, finds report

A report intended to aid future NHS workforce planning has revealed a geographical imbalance of staff in much of the UK’s specialist medical training units.

According to a report from the Centre for Workforce Intelligence (CfWI), specialist medical trainees are unequally spread around the UK. To solve this issue, the report recommended that training posts should be redistributed and called for the NHS to boost the “attractiveness” of specialist medical areas to avoid potential shortfalls in some areas while addressing oversupply elsewhere.
