Equal pay: Ladies in waiting

It cannot be a coincidence that Made in Dagenham is due for release on 1 October. The new film tells the story of the 1968 sewing machinists’ strike at Ford’s plant in east London, which spawned the Equal Pay Act 1970. As most employers now know, its release date is also the first implementation date for the Equality Act 2010, legislation that streamlines the various strands of discrimination law, including those on equal pay, that have evolved over the past 40 years.
