Get real on pensions
While in favour of maintaining the quality and design of the public-sector pension model, I feel that Gillian Hibberd’s statements (HR column, 12 August) present a misleading position. The fairest comparison is between the typical private-sector worker and public-sector worker, ignoring the anomaly of high earners and other exceptions in both systems. Hibberd quotes the average public-sector pension as £4,000 a year – she will find the average private pension is little different.
