Linking authenticity and sustainability

Tim Casserley and Bill Critchley are quite correct in their assertion that only leaders who believe that organisations should be driven by purpose and contribution rather than simply by pure profit will be able to sustain themselves in the longer term and, more importantly, build sustainable communities (“Perennial philosophy”, 12 August). Some CIPD members will have noticed the synergies between the concept of sustainable leaders and that of authentic leadership, where a “new” leader needs to emerge: one who is self-aware, compassionate and believes in ethical practice and social contribution.
