Ownership model won’t suit everyone

I worry about employee ownership. Not about the concept, but about the potential to be half-hearted with it. I'm not suggesting that's the case with the bookshop Blackwell's, which has just announced its intention to move to an ownership model. However, I do worry that, in the wake of coverage surrounding this decision, employee ownership might suddenly be seen as an escape route by companies desperately seeking something to spark a revival from recession. But it's no quick fix: employee ownership requires some very sound cultural foundations if it is to serve the business well.
