Benefit tests aren’t to all employees’ benefit
The article “Incapacity benefit testing regime starts” ( PM Online, 11 October ) mentioned how mental health problems can be a barrier to work and how the questions used to assess a person’s fitness to work disregard this. In addition, there are some medical conditions where, for example, frequent hospital appointments and regular medical interventions are necessary, which makes reliable attendance at work problematic. This creates barriers for both employer and employee.
