Embrace Next Generation HR, urges Tesco’s Tatum
The move towards more insightful HR is a learning journey professionals must embrace, Hayley Tatum, Tesco’s operations personnel director, told the conference.
In her presentation on Next Generation HR, Tatum called on delegates to consider how much time they spent thinking about the future, and how they are “using their authority” to get issues of long-term planning discussed.
“If you can analyse what you think might happen, you can start to plan. This will help in the chaos and confusion when things change,” she said.
She explained that some of her own personal insight came from her progression through the organisation and experience of shopfloor roles.
But she said that Next Generation HR skills were “not something you just picked up” and that no one has all the answers to the evolution of the function.
