Unwrap the cotton wool around public-sector staff
The high sickness absence rates in the public sector might be arrested if the sick pay arrangements were not so generous. Six months’ full pay and six months’ half pay is unheard of in the private sector because it comes out of the company’s profit margin. Civil servants seem to consider it is their right to have a certain amount of sick time off as a contractual right.
