Government signals student visa clampdown

The government has indicated it is to drastically curb the number of student visas awarded to non-EU nationals, as it announced a consultation on the issue.

Tougher entrance criteria, especially for those studying at sub-degree level, and an end to post-study work route under Tier 1 of the immigration rules are among the proposals made by ministers.
