No more ‘socio-economic’ duty under Equality Act
A provision in section 1 of the Equality Act 2010, intended to force public authorities to take into account disadvantage and inequalities when making policy decisions, is to be scrapped. The “socio-economic duty” was not implemented on 1 October 2010, when the act came into force. Now the government has announced that it will not be introduced and it may repeal section 1 altogether.
