SMEs are our best hope to rebuild the economy

John Philpott appears to be bundling the entire private sector together as one entity ( News page 7, 11 November ). In many respects, it’s more appropriate to divide the private sector into corporate and SME, and then to treat corporates like slightly less risk-averse public bodies. If you want to see private enterprise in its purest and most dynamic form, you cannot ignore SMEs – and even micro-businesses. This is where the real growth in jobs is going to come from.
