Migrant cap will fit in 2011
The government introduced an interim cap on non-EEA immigration last summer, and in November announced a permanent cap to apply from this April. Intra-company transfers (which enable multinationals to transfer employees to the UK) are excluded from the permanent cap, although additional restrictions will apply. Transferees will not be able to apply for indefinite leave to remain, and can only stay in the UK for up to 12 months if they earn in excess of £24,000 a year, or five years if they earn more than £40,000 a year.
