DRA to go in October, government confirms
The government has confirmed it will scrap the default retirement age (DRA) by 1 October 2011, rejecting calls for a delay to the implementation of the move.Currently the DRA enables employers to force staff to retire at 65 regardless of their circumstances, but the government feels the rules must change as people are living longer, healthier lives. Confirmation of the timescale for abolition follows the end of a consultation on the issue.
