Time to make the default retirement age old news
As an employer, I welcome the government’s confirmation that it will abolish the default retirement age from October. A recent statistic showed a good insight into our ageing population: of those alive today, one in six has a reasonable expectation of living to the age of 100. If retirement expectations don’t change in response to this demographic shift then pension provisions, which are already reckoned to be inadequate, will have to be eked out even longer.
