Parental leave reforms

It's a brave government that promises that it is looking at ways of reducing regulatory burdens on business one week, and then publishes proposals to reform the workplace the next. It's an even braver government that presides over radical changes to parental rights one month, and then throws everything up in the air the next month, so that even more radical reforms to parental rights can be implemented. A government that does both is bold indeed. With its consultation on Modern Workplaces, this Government has done both at once. I'd bet there's not a single person with anything to do with HR who didn't roll their eyes, mutter under their breath or gesticulate wildly at its publication. And that's not because this came as a surprise; at least some of it was expected. It's the timing. HR are still grappling with the last set of changes on additional paternity leave, and haven't the inclination or energy to cope with more. So what's in this brave new world of modern workplaces?
