Workplace affairs in regulated companies
Workplace relationships pose tricky problems for HR. A member of a team having a relationship with their line manager can give rise to perceptions of favouritism and damage team performance. The breakdown of a relationship can create significant workplace tension and even lead to discrimination claims. For these reasons, employers often have policies in place prohibiting relationships at work or, more usually, requiring them to be declared so that action can be taken if necessary
