Public-sector staff to receive 1 per cent pay rise, says chancellor

Public-sector pay rises will be capped at 1 per cent for the next two years, chancellor George Osborne has revealed in his autumn statement this afternoon.

Osborne said the “country could not afford” to offer anything more than a 1 per cent increase in salary from next April for public-sector workers, who have seen their basic pay frozen for two years.
