This privacy policy explains the steps we take to ensure the security and confidentiality of your personal information.


1. Data protection and privacy

PPL recognises that your privacy is important to you. Any personally identifiable information (such as your name, address, email address or other information that relates to you including, for example, your CV) provided by you via this Website ("Personal Information") will be processed by PPL or on its behalf under strictly regulated conditions in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 and the terms of this Privacy Policy.

By submitting your Personal Information via the Website, you are consenting to the processing of your Personal Information for the purposes and by the means set out in this Privacy Policy.


2. How we use your personal information

Your Personal Information will only be used for the following purposes:

(a) updating and administering CIPD membership records;

(b) defining areas of interest to you and improving the Website to meet users' habits and requirements and compiling information relating to users' movements across the Website;

(c) providing the Website Services including the Jobs Service (as defined in the Website Terms and Conditions of use) to you, facilitating your use of the Services and providing you with the job alerts if requested; and

(d) advising you of CIPD products and services which may be of interest.


3. PPL, CIPD and CIPD Enterprises Ltd

Your Personal Information may be transferred between PPL, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development ("CIPD") (on whose behalf this Website is operated) and its subsidary, CIPD Enterprises Limited. Your Personal Information will only be used for the purposes set out in paragraph 2 above.


4. Third parties

Your Personal Information will not be transferred to any other third party without your consent except:

(a) in connection with the assignment or transfer of all or any of PPL, CIPD, or CIPD Enterprises Limited’s rights and obligations to any of their respective group companies or any other third party; or

(b) in connection with an application for a job through the "Jobs" section of the Website.


5. Job applications

By making any application for a job through the "Jobs" section of the Website you are consenting to the transfer to the potential employer of all Personal Information and other information, including, in particular, any sensitive personal data, contained within the application form, email or related attachments.


6. Employers outside the EEA

Potential employers (and/or their agents) for whom we advertise jobs on the Website may be located in countries both inside and outside the European Economic Area ("EEA"). Countries outside the EEA may not have equivalent laws to protect your Personal Information. By making an application for a job to a potential employer who is outside the EEA you acknowledge that your Personal Information may be unprotected, and that PPL accepts no responsibility for this.


7. Job-alert emails

PPL may wish to send "Members" (ie. CIPD members or People Management magazine subscribers) job alerts by e-mail. Members have the opportunity to opt-in to receiving such e-mails in their respective "My jobs" areas.


8. Accuracy

PPL will take reasonable steps to create an accurate record of your Personal Information. However, PPL does not assume responsibility for confirming the ongoing accuracy of your Personal Information. You may amend your Personal Information in the "My Profile" area of the Website.


If you have any questions about your Personal Information, or if you want PPL to delete your Personal Information from its systems, please email database@cipd.co.uk. Proof of your identity or other information may be required in order to respond to your request.
