PM Guide to Surviving the DownturnIn the first quarter of 2009 the UK economy shrank by 1.9 per cent and 6.7 per cent of the population is now unemployed.

But there are ways to lessen the downturn's effects. For example, offering flexible working can save organisations money and help them retain a diverse workforce.

The government has put in place practical and financial measures for both firms and staff via its Real Help Now campaign. This aims to ensure companies not only survive the recession, but are fighting fit for the inevitable upturn.
