How emotion impacts performance and business results

We’re pre-programmed to form attachments that we need to survive – so when we don’t connect with other people, it hurts. Talking about our emotions can feel difficult, but doing so can have a real impact on business performance

Emotions are everywhere. Yet in business they are rarely encouraged or spoken about. It is possible to have the human interactions necessary to build connection and trust and hold people to account around performance. It is possible to do both at the same time.

Emotion drives connection. That’s why bringing emotion back to business is critical and there is no need to overcomplicate it. If we are more proactive in this area, there will be less need for the wellbeing interventions that are there to support people once they are ‘broken’.

Talking about our feelings and emotions can feel difficult, but doing this can bring about incredible transformations that have a real impact on business performance.

A ‘business person’ is defined as someone undertaking activities for the purpose of generating cash flow, sales and revenue with a view to fuelling business growth and development. A ‘humanitarian’ is someone seeking to promote human welfare. The two are often seen as mutually exclusive, but why should they be? Holding people to account at the same time promoting human welfare is the perfect combination to drive connection and performance.

We use simple frameworks to support conversations, access emotions and increase connection.

The Rising Vibrational Scale is the backbone model of the Rising Vibe brand and is used to enable acknowledgment of how we are really feeling.

We use the five Cs framework alongside the scale to bring simple and practical application of connection to the business world:

  • Clarity
  • Capability
  • Confidence
  • Connection
  • Cared about

This enables a conversation with a clear business frame, and at the same time checks in around how someone is feeling.

Connection in the workplace rarely happens immediately, so showing commitment and using such tools as these consistently on a regularly basis is critical to achieve results.
