Having a broad professional network is a huge asset to your HR career. Your network is often key to hearing about new jobs, the latest industry trends and opportunities for professional development.
Building a network can be a struggle, so here are three tried and tested ways to grow your HR network:
1. Attend HR conferences
If you’re looking for an easy way to meet new people, get yourself to an HR event. Conferences give you access to a huge number of like-minded professionals all under one roof and ready to mingle and chat.
We’d definitely recommend hitting up the big CIPD conferences like the Annual Conference & Exhibition in November. CIPD events are always well-attended and offer a huge range of opportunities to network.
2. Network online
Social networks can be great tools for expanding your professional network without ever leaving the house.
Lively Twitter chats like #HRHour and #LDInsight are a great place to swap knowledge and pick up insider tips in a public forum. LinkedIn groups like HR Voices with ICS Learn give you the chance to interact on a more personal level with other HR professionals.
Whatever platform you choose, make sure you contribute where you can – giving out help and advice as well as receiving it will strengthen your connections.
3. Use the CIPD branch network
Your CIPD membership allows you to join your local branch network and we’d highly recommend sparing some time to get involved.
Local branch events are a great way to meet new people; volunteering to help organise them is even better. This means you can grow your network, develop new skills and gain valuable experience. Find your local branch here.
