Given that most business leaders acknowledge that the key differentiator of success is their people, getting recruitment right is the critical first step. Get it wrong, however, and the costs can be huge.

First, get the foundations sorted, and clarify what defines success in the role. Second, build the house using targeted, relevant and challenging selection exercises.
